Reaching the Summit.

With August comes armfuls of flowers and all the feelings of a fleeting childhood summer.

Some might think August is the busiest month on the flower farm. In some senses it is - the most flowers are blooming and we have the most U-Pick visitors. But to me August is the summit of a nonstop climb I started in February. It’s a chance for me to sit down and gaze out at a view I have been working towards for a long, drawn out time. Seeds ordered last October were sold in subscriptions and a field planned for all winter. Those seeds were then planted in February, transplanted in May, tended all summer and are now in full bloom. August is a place I can pause and catch my breath before the down hill climb of digging dahlias, gathering up irrigation lines, tarps, and all the other prep that goes into fall on a flower farm.

August creates a moment of stillness after a summer of perpetual movement. To me this looks like a mental break. A little pause in promoting and emailing and posting and planning and website prep; all the busyness behind the business that takes the biggest chunk of my attention. This August I felt the needed to transfer a little of that attention to my sweet little babies with their tan lines, sun bleached hair, and sand in their toes.

There is always a fear that if I pause so will the forward momentum for the business, but this year you all have continued to show up without hesitation without prompting and without begging and pleading. You have shown up in droves to yoga this month setting records for attendance two weeks in a row (28 people each time)!! You came out Looney Daze weekend and set a record for U-Pickers and made sure every single bloom in the field made it into your homes (seriously there wasn’t a single one left!). And every week you come and show the fields love. You spend your bachelorette parties here and you capture your family photos here. You bring your babies here, you bring your grandmas here, and you bring your future wives to say yes here. And it is just so special.

So THANK YOU! I am so grateful to all of you who have followed along and think to visit the fields even when I take a little break from the constant promotion. Thank you to everyone who continues stop by and a huge thank you to those of you who share about our fields! The self - serve nature of True Blue makes it so I don’t often get the chance to thank you in person, but I constantly feel it. Because of you I have gotten a little extra time with these busy babies of mine. We have the best customers - THANK YOU!
